The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) seeks Russian-speaking enlisted service members to provide critical support as consecutive interpreters for arms control missions, treaties, and security cooperation engagements. Representatives from the agency will be at various installations in Germany throughout the month of May, including U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart on Monday, May 12, to give an agency overview briefing and assess prospective candidates who speak Russian.
Headquartered at Fort Belvoir,Virginia, DTRA has more than 100 active-duty enlisted military Russian interpreters from the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force, who provide critical support as consecutive interpreters for arms control missions and is the nation’s primary implementer of Arms Control treaties. Interpreters regularly attend language training classes both in the U.S. and in countries of the former Soviet Union. Additionally, once assigned to DTRA, interpreters may have the opportunity to augment DTRA’s staff at U.S. embassies in countries such as Romania (Bucharest), Kazakhstan (Astana), and other locations.
The agency is looking for both heritage/non-heritage and native Russian-speaking enlisted active duty service members (soldiers, airmen, sailors, and marines). The minimum rank requirement is E-5 and above, however, E-4 service members will be considered on a case-by-case basis. To initiate the recruiting process, the candidate must meet the minimum requirement of three years’ time in service, and two years of time on station.
