Army Staff Sgt. Salvatore A. Giunta’s decision to risk his life so
others could live placed him “squarely among the most magnificent of
those worthy of this honor,” said Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates
Nov. 17, as the nation’s first living Medal of Honor recipient in 40
years was inducted into the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes.

Members of the NATO military community and international staff, along
with service members from U.S. European Command, met with their Russian
counterparts in Prague for a NATO-Russia Council Water Handling Workshop
Oct 25-28.

“We’re making history here,” said Navy Capt. Gregory Zielinski, chief of
EUCOM’s engineering division. “This meeting was all about
interoperability and building cooperation with NATO and Russia. The
purpose was to engage with our Russian partners and share knowledge in
