October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart Commander Col. Edward J. Sanford and Command Sgt. Maj. Christopher Melendez have proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month across our installations.

The annual observance shows USAG Stuttgart’s commitment to promoting healthy homes and encourages Service Members, civilians, and family members to recognize that what happens inside of the home matters and support is available.

The month of October is a time to raise awareness of the resources available to prevent domestic violence.

At USAG Stuttgart, the Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate (DAVA) provides comprehensive support services to adult victims of domestic abuse including: crisis intervention, safety planning, help obtaining medical treatment for injuries, information on legal rights and proceedings, referral to military and civilian shelters, and other resources.

DAVAs provide information so clients can make informed choices in reporting an assault and how they choose to proceed and s are available to accompany adult clients to medical visits, court proceedings, and other appointments as requested. Services are available 24/7.

Family Advocacy Program team members will host a number of events throughout the month designed to bring awareness to this important issue. Hear from them on AFN on Oct. 5 at 8:30 a.m., stop by the Panzer Main Exchange from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 20 for Hot Cocoa and Hot Topics, or attend Couples Connection Night on Oct. 21 (Bldg. 2915, Room 222, 5:30-7:30 p.m.) to enjoy an evening of fun activities focused on strengthening your relationship.
