DoDEA Schools to close

Story by Installation Management Directorate Command – Europe
The U.S. Army Europe Commander, Lt. Gen. Christopher Cavoli, has decided that DoDEA schools in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands will close beginning Monday, March 16.

The military communities throughout Europe continue to work closely with their host nation partners on the evolving COVID-19 spread, closely monitoring the situation and are taking measures that will help mitigate the spread of the virus. One of the most important service partners involved in these discussions has been the leadership of the DoDEA school system.

Teachers in our schools are preparing to explain lesson plans and the mechanics of connecting to the digital learning environment to their students as those details become available.

As we have found over the past couple of weeks, as the COVID situation has rapidly and unpredictably evolved, we have been reminded of the importance of clear and frequent communication. Your schools’ principals and their teachers understand this and will be available to help your students and you to support you through and to navigate this challenging situation.

Garrison Commanders will make the decisions locally about Child and Youth Services.

Our priority remains the health and safety of our personnel and their family members, and we will continue to everything we can to mitigate the spread of the virus.
