STUTTGART, Germany — Closed roads, detours and the occasional crane are becoming familiar sights around U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart. Construction can slow commutes and test drivers’ patience, but the work is about more than short-term inconvenience.

Across the garrison, workers are repairing aging infrastructure, updating building systems and constructing new facilities to meet safety and security standards. The projects are part of a long-term effort to improve quality of life and keep the community safe.

“These projects are evidence of the garrison’s steps to bring the installation into the 21st century,” said Terry Walker, chief of the engineering division for the Directorate of Public Works.

Walker said the DPW is working closely with host-nation partners to keep projects on schedule and limit disruptions. “We are forging the future of USAG Stuttgart, ” said Jean Pierre Messier, deputy to the director of Public Works. “This transformation ensures that we will continue to stand as a preeminent platform, empowering our joint mission partners to succeed for decades to come.”

Here is a look at the construction projects shaping USAG Stuttgart in 2026 and what the community can expect.
