Parking restrictions and noise advisory for upcoming AFRICOM Change of Command ceremony

U.S. Africa Command will host a Change of Command ceremony on Kelley Barracks next week. During this time, parking may be extremely limited. Additionally, areas around Kelley Barracks may experience loud noise but there is no need to be alarmed. See the following announcement for details.

Beginning at 1 a.m. on Aug. 12 through 4 p.m. on Aug. 15 parking will be blocked off in the following areas:

  • The parking lot adjacent to the Kelley Club
  • One row of parking in the parking lot in front of bachelor quarters for Building 3344

In addition to the above, beginning at 1 p.m. on Aug. 14 through 4 p.m. on Aug. 15, parking will be blocked in the following areas:

  • All of the parking between the Kelley Fitness Center (Building 3326) and Building 3352. (Note: Parking behind the Kelley Fitness Center will remain open, however access may be blocked off. This space is meant for employees of the fitness center, DPW, and the CDC).
  • All the parking adjacent to Building 3322

Parking will be extremely limited on Friday, Aug. 15. AFRICOM personnel are highly encouraged to car pool, use public transportation, bike, or park on another installation and use the duty bus.

Noise Advisory

Please be advised that the ceremony and prior rehearsals will include a ceremonial artillery gun salute. Loud cannon rounds or gun shot sounds may be heard around Kelley Barracks around the following times:

Tuesday, Aug. 12 from 8 to 11 a.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 13 from 8 to 11 a.m.
Thursday, Aug. 14 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Friday, Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

No live rounds are being fired and there is no need to be alarmed by the noise.
