Day after the big strike – Premiere of Delta flight at the airport postponed to Tuesday

There was little to report from Stuttgart Airport. No special incidents about the situation at the terminals, which were largely deserted on Monday. The strike on a weekday outside the normal travel season made re-bookings easier.

Only one premiere date was botched: the welcome ceremony for the first plane of the direct flight from Atlanta to Stuttgart planned for Monday morning, which was resumed by the U.S. carrier Delta Airlines after a long break, had to be postponed to Tuesday (today). Onset of winter in Böblingen – Accidents on icy roads

Black ice roads have caused accidents on Tuesday morning in the Böblingen urban area. Already at shortly before 8 o’clock there was a rear-end collision on Calwer Straße on the bridge between the junctions Talstraße and Konrad-Zuse-Straße.

According to the police, the road was so slippery that the building yard was called in to grit the road. In the direction of Dagersheim, the lanes were still closed half an hour later while the police regulated the traffic. There was also a crash on the opposite carriageway. Exact details of the vehicles involved, the extent of the damage and any injuries are not yet available. (BB Kreiszeitung, Mar 28)

Weather mix in Stuttgart – First snow and sleet – then again 18 degrees Celsius (64 F)

Anyone who looked out of the window or was out and about in the Stuttgart region today is likely to have experienced a wide variety of weather at different times. “The weather kept changing, we had all kinds of variations,” says Florian Engelmann, meteorologist at the German Weather Service (DWD). There was snow, rain and also sleet, as well as some sun, he said. The reason for this unsettled weather in the region is a polar cold air, which is currently in all of Germany and triggers showers and thunderstorms, as Engelmann explains. The cold air could also be felt in the temperatures today, says the DWD meteorologist. The milder temperatures of up to 20 degrees in recent days have been replaced by six to eight degrees, he said. “During some rain showers, there was only two degrees.  Towards evening, it is supposed to continue raining from time to time, but then on Tuesday the weather calms down. Even if the clouds are similar to Monday, no rain is expected, he said. “It will be a friendly day, with temperatures around ten degrees,” says the DWD expert. However, this break will not last long.  In the night to Wednesday, the next rain area is already moving in, heralding further unsettled weather. The temperatures are rising – on Wednesday up to 17 and on Thursday up to 18 degrees – however, it keeps raining. “Even if the temperatures become more spring-like, a real spring high is not to be expected because of the rain,” says meteorologist Engelmann. Rather, he says, it’s up and down, with the weather; hence: never boring. (Stuttgarter Nachrichten, Mar 28)

German Pizza Championship – One of the best pizzas comes from Weil im Schönbuch (BB District)

Baking pizza in front of a jury – that’s even for an experienced pizza baker very exciting.   “Lots of emotions,” says Domenico Tedesco and laughs. He says he had “pure panic” for the ten minutes it takes to prepare and bake the pizza, but all in all the competition was a lot of fun.  Domenico Tedesco, who comes from Naples and has been preparing pizza and pasta at his Ristorante “Pizza Vola” in Weil im Schönbuch since 2001, took part in the German Pizza Championship in Hamburg. It was recently held for the tenth time at the international trade fair for the catering and hotel industry. Although the German-Italian has been baking pizza day in and day out for more than a quarter of a century, he trained extra for the German championship and tinkered with the perfect dough. A little more of this, a little less of that – the pizza should be nothing less than perfect.  In fact, he thinks. “The dough, the shape, the taste, everything was perfect,” he says of the show bake, in which he competed in the “Pizza Napoletana Moderna” category. He had chosen the Marinara variant – a pizza baked without cheese and only with tomato and garlic oil. The jury also liked his pizza, but in the end it was only enough for second place. The victory went to Maurizio de Giacomo, a pizza maker from Fürth in Middle Franconia. He was already German pizza champion in 2007 and 2010

“Everything’s okay, I’m satisfied,” says Tedesco, who can line up his trophy next to all the other trophies he has already won: He has already become German champion twice, in 2007 in the taste category, and in 2010 in the speed category. He also won third place in the acrobatics category in 2007, and in 2019 he was runner-up in the European Championships. Even though it was only enough for the runner-up title this time, Tedesco is glad that everything went smoothly. Other contestants would not have been so lucky: “One had to throw away his dough, another lost all his material on the plane from Italy,” he says. (Stuttgarter Nachrichten, Mar 28)

Annoyance in Böblingen – Street lighting out at lower Herdweg

In the lower area of the Herdweg between Schönaicher Straße and Achalmstraße, the street lighting has been out for about two weeks. For this numerous feedbacks from the population were received at the citizen department. The reason for this is a major cable damage, which the ZTB and a specialist company had to locate at great expense. “Despite working under high pressure, this took more time,” so the city administration. The repair is expected to take place in the week before Easter. (Stuttgarter Nachrichten, Mar 28)

Closure of Wolfgang-Brumme-Allee (BB city center) – crane will be dismantled on Saturday.Böblingen. The Wolfgang-Brumme-Allee must be fully closed on Saturday, April 1, 2023, between Friedrich-List-Platz and Talstraße, i.e. also in the direction of the train station / Flugfeld / Sindelfingen. The reason for this is the dismantling of a crane. A detour will be signposted via Friedrich-List-Strasse – Sindelfinger Strasse – Talstrasse. Access to the Wolfgang-Brumme-Allee 25 and the underground parking garage, as well as the gas station will still be possible from the Talstraße traffic circle. Safe passage for pedestrians is guaranteed at all times.  (BB.heute.de, Mar 28)
