Closure on the Alb ascent A8 towards Stuttgart closed this weekend
Bad news for drivers traveling from Munich/Ulm towards Stuttgart. As the Autobahn GmbH (Federal Highway Company) has announced, the A8 between Ulm-West and Mühlhausen will be closed in the direction of Stuttgart this coming weekend. The closure will begin on Friday, March 20, at 8 p.m. and last until Monday, March 23, at 5 a.m. The Munich-bound lanes will not be affected.
According to the Autobahn GmbH, the closure is due to tree felling work on the Drackensteiner Hang. The work is being carried out for the expansion of the A8 Alb ascent and for species protection.
To avoid traffic jams on alternative routes, the Autobahn GmbH urges drivers to follow the official detour only and to switch off their navigation systems.
Those traveling towards Stuttgart should take the B10 and B313 from the Ulm-West interchange via Geislingen an der Steige and Göppingen to the Wendlingen interchange.
From there, they can continue their journey on the A8 towards Stuttgart.
Theme parks in Baden-Württemberg are once again offering plenty of new attractions for the start of the season. Here’s an overview:
Europa-Park Europa-Park in Rust (Ortenau district) is opening its 18th themed area this season. This area is dedicated to the microstate of Monaco.
“Inspired by Mediterranean flair, guests will experience the country in all its facets around the ‘Silver Star’ roller coaster, with magnificent architecture, elegant marinas, and culinary highlights,” the park announced.
The head of state of Monaco, Prince Albert II, will also be attending the opening ceremony this summer.
Content creator Sally Özcan from the YouTube channel “Sally’s World” is opening her first café in the park. Located in the Icelandic-themed area, the café will offer cakes, specialty coffees, and creations from Sally’s repertoire. Those wishing to stay overnight during their visit to the park will also have more options starting this summer. The Western area Silver Lake City is expanding and now offers 119 rooms with the new Riverside Western Lodge.
The official season opening is on March 28.
Tripsdrill Adventure Park in Cleebronn (Heilbronn district)
Visitors can look forward to the new attraction, Luftikus. Guests sit in small zeppelin gondolas that take off into the air and enjoy a circular flight on the rotating platform.
The attraction will be operational during the pre-opening weekend on March 21 and 22. The official season opening is also on March 28.
In the summer, a new indoor playground will be added to the themed dining area. Measuring 200 square meters, it will be designed in the style of a Swabian pantry. The theme park includes more than 100 attractions as well as a wildlife park with over 60 animal species.
Schwaben Park (Rems-Murr district)
Turbo Toni’s Laundry Spin opens in July. The fictional raccoon Turbo Toni, an inventive tinkerer and inventor, is the focus of this new family attraction. His plan: to dry as much laundry as possible in the shortest possible time. The ride itself is a large swing that reaches a height of up to twelve meters and is visually reminiscent of a 19th-century washtub.
Ravensburger Spieleland in Meckenbeuren (Lake Constance district) opens on March 28. The most significant recent addition remains the interactive ride Scotland Yard, based on a classic from the Upper Swabian toy manufacturer, which opened last year. Children become detectives in vehicles, racing through a recreated London setting with indoor and outdoor areas. Season ticket holders can enjoy a pre-opening on March 26.
Legoland Germany in Günzburg kicks off the season with several smaller new features in the entrance area and at events. New additions include a nearly five-meter-high Tree of Creativity made from almost 260,000 Lego bricks, the new large Lego figure, Professor Brick, at the roundabout in front of the entrance, and a significantly larger Lego shop.
For the season opening from March 28 to April 12, the family park is also hosting a large Ninjago event with ninja challenges, shows, and interactive stations. Children under two years old get in free. Peppa Pig and smaller parks Families with toddlers might also enjoy a visit to the Peppa Pig Park next door. The world of pigs based on the TV series Peppa Pig opened just last year.

Unemployment increases among university graduates
Among university graduates, the number of unemployed rose particularly sharply in percentage terms last year. The number of highly qualified unemployed people increased by 20.3 percent in 2025, the Baden-Württemberg State Statistical Office in Fellbach near Stuttgart announced.
By comparison, according to the statistics, the average number of people registered as unemployed in Baden-Württemberg in 2025 was 8.8 percent higher than in the previous year.
More than half of the unemployed had no completed vocational training. In this group, the number of unemployed rose by 6.2 percent. The number of registered unemployed people with vocational or school-based training increased by 10.7 percent.
The unemployment rate among university graduates rose by 0.4 percentage points to 2.6 percent due to the persistently difficult labor market situation, the statisticians reported.
The relatively sharp increase, however, is “largely due to the still comparatively low number of highly qualified unemployed people,” according to the statement.
Among all German states, the unemployment rate for highly qualified workers was lowest in Baden-Württemberg – along with Hesse. Overall, the unemployment rate in the southwest was 4.6 percent.
