Lufthansa pilots to strike again today and tomorrow, flights from BW should be unaffected

As in mid-February, some scheduled Lufthansa flights are expected to be canceled again on Thursday and Friday due to strikes. This was announced by the pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit on Tuesday. They are calling on pilots at Lufthansa Passenger Airlines, Lufthansa Cargo, and Lufthansa CityLine to strike.

The strike will affect Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa Passenger Airlines flights departing from German airports from midnight on March 12 to midnight on March 13. Lufthansa CityLine flights departing from German airports will also be affected for 24 hours starting at midnight on March 12.

However, airport officials in Baden-Württemberg have said the planned strike is not expected to have any major impact on passengers at airports in Baden-Württemberg. This is according to feedback from the airports in response to an inquiry from the German Press Agency. No flights in Stuttgart have been affected so far. Should any flights be canceled, they will be posted on the airport’s website as soon as possible.

The strike has no impact on Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden and Friedrichshafen airports, as there are no Lufthansa flights leaving from there.

“We ask affected passengers for their understanding,” the VC statement read. “A strike is always a last resort for us and not an end in itself.”

The strike stems from the failed collective bargaining negotiations regarding salaries at Lufthansa CityLine and the company pension scheme for pilots at Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo.

Lufthansa is expected to respond with a special flight schedule – affected passengers can generally cancel or rebook their flights free of charge. Customers will be automatically notified by the airline if their flight is affected.

Flights to the following destinations are exempt from the strike: Egypt, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Yemen, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
