Renaissance Festival in Horb am Neckar this weekend
The largest medieval jousting festival in Baden-Württemberg will take place this weekend from June 13 to 15 in Horb am Neckar.
Once a year, the small Neckar town of Horb becomes the backdrop for a grand journey through time. For the 27th time, history will turn back roughly 500 years. The town's historic setting provides the perfect stage for knights competing in jousting tournaments, gallant nobles in splendid attire, wandering performers, merchants, sword fighters, and medieval taverns serving food and drink.
The festival takes place in Horb because of a historical event witnessed by the town in 1498. King Maximilian, later emperor of the Holy Roman empire, sealed the Horb Treaty, settling a long-standing succession dispute. The signing of the treaty will be reenacted twice on Saturday and Sunday on the main stage, set against the town's picturesque historic backdrop. Following the reenactment, King Maximilian and his entourage will proceed through the town in a grand parade to the tournament grounds, where a jousting tournament will be held in his honor.
Tickets start at 21 euro. Additional details can be found on the official website.
