EUCOM dedicates room to honor Sailor’s selfless service

U.S. European Command leadership dedicated their Deployment and Distribution Operations Center  in memory of Petty Officer 3rd Class William J. Barnette Nov. 22 on Patch Barracks in Stuttgart-Vaihingen.

Barnette was honored for his key role in transforming the EDDOC to a high-tech command and control facility.

The EDDOC now has the capability to support theater-wide unclassified and classified communications in support of contingency operations and plans.

Barnette was assigned to the EDDOC from October 2009 to August 2011. He eventually transitioned from the military and relocated to Seattle, Wash., where he later died in a skiing accident Jan. 22, 2012, at age 31.
