Members of the Stuttgart military community observed Black History Month in the Panzer Chapel, Feb. 19.

Guest speaker Ch. (Lt. Col.) Grace Hollis, USAG Stuttgart Deputy Garrison Chaplain, delivered a powerful and moving speech that had all in attendance on their feet to give her a standing ovation. Hollis detailed the tumultuous history of African-Americans and their journey from slavery to the present.

“It’s not easy to talk about Black History Month in a diverse group of people, because I find it very paradoxical that February, a month that is known for showing up to family and friends for Valentine’s Day, is also the month that is set aside to remember the history of a people who have experienced the very opposite of love,” Hollis said.

The observance was followed with a food tasting and cake in the chapel annex.
