Stuttgarts hosts American Days event this month

This year’s annual American Days event — focused on celebrating German-American friendship — will run from May 6-16 in downtown Stuttgart.

American Days will start at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart on May 6 at 8 p.m. with a concert featuring the Bosman Twins from St. Louis, and Trijo, a Stuttgart-based jazz-ensemble. The motto, “St. Louis Jazz meets Stuttgart Groove,” exemplifies American Days: bringing people from both nations together to celebrate and cultivate a cultural exchange.

Tickets can be purchased at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart.

“American Days, established in 2008, is the only event of its kind [in] Germany,” said Michael Weissenborn, executive director of the German American Institute in Stuttgart.

The program includes more than 70 events, such as concerts, exhibitions, lectures, sports, theater, workshops and movies.

The colorful program offers something for all age groups, while educating participants about the history of German-American relationships in Stuttgart.
“This year, some of the American Days events will focus on the 50th anniversary of the sister city partnership between Stuttgart and St. Louis, Missouri. Historically, Stuttgart has many connections with the United States, and stands for significant working relationships when it comes to politics, economy and cultural exchange,” Weissenborn said.

“The close relationship between Stuttgart and the United States is not only forged through the sister city partnership, but more so through members of the U.S. forces stationed in this area. The Stuttgart military community contributes to the ongoing friendship on an everyday basis,” he added.
