U.S. Army Europe’s new commanding general arrived in theater and assumed command of USAREUR Dec. 1.
Lt. Gen. Donald Campbell Jr., now USAREUR’s 38th commander, arrived in Heidelberg and took the command’s reins earlier than anticipated. Campbell, who handed off his previous command at III Corps and Fort Hood, Texas, last month, will be the last USAREUR commander in Heidelberg before the command moves to Wiesbaden, Germany, in 2013. He will lead the organization primarily from Clay Kaserne in Wiesbaden. A formal assumption of command ceremony will be conducted after the new year.
