The decision to have all commercial traffic enter and exit Patch Barracks’ K&K gate, and all privately owned vehicle traffic only use the Patch main gate, caused a massive traffic backup that stretched past the autobahn intersection and along Haupt Strasse into Vaihingen, Sept. 23.
The garrison apologizes for any inconvenience this caused. To help ensure the same traffic backup doesn’t continue, POVs may again enter Patch Barracks through the K&K gate during the morning commute.
“What POV drivers should know is K&K gate will continue to be the only entrance onto Patch for commercial vehicles,” Col. Jason Condrey, commander, USAG Stuttgart garrison, said. “Therefore, if a commercial vehicle does need to come onto the installation at that time, it may create a delay as the vehicle gets inspected and processed.”
School buses and duty buses will continue to use the Patch main gate. K&K gate will be open for outbound POV traffic from 5 –6 p.m. on weekdays; it will be closed to all traffic on weekends and U.S. federal holidays.
