Father’s Day and weekend events worth checking out
Last Sunday belonged to the mothers; this Thursday is fathers’ day (in Germany) and is traditionally celebrated on Ascension Day. Even though the weather this year is expected to be somewhat undependable, there are numerous opportunities in the region to enjoy a memorable holiday. From outdoor gatherings and music festivals to family-friendly activities, here are some events:
Renningen
Bergwaldfest (Forest Festival): Starting at 11 am., a diverse musical program awaits visitors inside the *Bergwaldhalle*, featuring performances by the *Stadtkapelle Heimsheim* Music Association and the *Sontanos* band. In the evening, DJ Tutu takes over, ensuring a lively atmosphere with upbeat party music. There is also a petting zoo available for children.
Ditzingen
Music Association will celebrate its annual Music Festival in a festival tent located in the *Glemsaue* area. The festivities kick off on Wednesday, May 13, with an “After-Work Party.” The band “5er Blech” from the Allgäu region will provide the entertainment and set the mood from 5 p.m. – 11 p.m.
On the Holiday on Thursday, the program features a relaxed gathering accompanied by traditional brass band music, running from 10 a.m. -11 p.m.
Mönsheim
A medieval festival will take place on May 16 and 17 as the 18th edition of its Knightly Games (*Ritterspiele*) held on their grounds. The program includes theatrical performances, music, and a spectacular fire show on Saturday evening. Additionally, visitors can discover their inner knight by trying their hand at archery and pony riding. The grounds are open on Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight, and on Sunday from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. (May 12 Stuttgarter Nachrichten)
2026 Sindelfingen “Schlemmer Markt” or Gourmet Market
Sindelfingen will host their “Schlemmer Markt” starting Thursday, May 14 – to Sunday, May 17 on the Market Square and at the Planiedreieck area in Sindelfingen. Local restaurateurs will offer culinary specialties, drinks, and an accompanying musical program The event begins daily at 11 a.m. Location: Oberer Marktplatz/ Planiedreieck, 71060 Sindelfingen. The weather in the coming days
Scattered showers will continue to move through the region, bringing snow to parts of the uplands. In the east, brief thunderstorms may also occur during the afternoon. Temperatures will reach 7 degrees on the Alb plateau, rising to between 12 and 15 degrees. Overnight, it will turn cold enough in many places for ground frost. Wednesday is expected to be the driest day of the week. Isolated showers are possible only in the afternoon, in the north and west. Temperatures will climb to as high as 17 degrees. However, heavy rain will set in again into Thursday, accompanied by brief thunderstorms. Thursday and Friday will remain mostly heavily overcast, rainy, and cool. (May 12 Stuttgarter Nachrichten)
