COVID numbers in Baden Wuerttemberg
Stuttgart – The number of new Corona infections in the southwest has again increased slightly. The so-called seven-day incidence was 17.3 on Sunday (as of 4 p.m.), according to the state health office in Stuttgart. The previous day, the value had been 17.0. Thus, the authority recorded 96 new infections and one new death related to the virus. In Baden-Württemberg, 508,021 people have been proven to be infected with the virus. The number of deaths linked to the virus now stands at 10,431. None of the 44 urban and rural districts in the southwest is yet above the politically relevant threshold of 35 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in one week. However, the Main-Tauber district is at 34, the Lörrach district at 31.5, and Mannheim at 29. (Stgt Nachrichten, Aug 9)
B-W Minister President Winfried Kretschmann gives Interview
In an interview with the Stuttgarter Zeitung this weekend, B-W Minister President Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) said that his central goal in the conference with the other minister presidents and the Chancellor, tomorrow, Aug 10, is to establish clarity for the fall. He sees progression in vaccination levels as a reason for a new way of dealing with freedoms and restrictions, with a larger scale removal of restrictions on vaccinated and recovered people. Basic measures, such as mask wear on public transportation will remain. Non-vaccinated people should reckon that their access to various things will be restricted. Unlike Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder (CSU) and Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU), Kretschmann believes that going from a system of vaccinated-recovered-tested (in German, the 3-G Principle) to only vaccinated-recovered (2-G Principle) would be difficult to implement and the line where basic requirements stop and other areas of social life begin is hard to define. Kretschmann believes that it is justifiable that unvaccinated people would have to pay for their own tests, since the vaccine is offered for free. He also sees getting vaccinated as a civic duty. On the use of the 7-Day- Incidence numbers, Kretschmann said that it will continue to be one of the measures the use to trigger easing or restrictions, although other factors, such as the level of hospitalizations or ICU occupancies, will play an increased role. On Sept. 1, the third vaccinations for high risk groups is scheduled to begin. The next implementation of COVID measures is scheduled to take effect Aug. 23. (Stuttgarter Nachrichten, August 8)
Corona vaccination – should Covid-19 recoverees get vaccinated a second time?
The Standing Commission on Vaccination (Stiko) continues to view a single vaccination as sufficient for those who have recovered. A second vaccination makes sense only on one condition: about six months should have passed since the last Corona vaccination. If this is not yet the case, it is better to wait. In September, a modified vaccine from Biontech is expected to be approved, which will provide even more effective protection against the mutations of the corona virus. Must one expect stronger vaccination reactions after a further vaccination? Reactions could be even stronger, in general. Even those who have shown only a few reactions after the last vaccination should expect to feel unwell for a few days. What applies if you have been vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine as a recoveree? Here, the procedure is a bit more complicated, as the liability issue will not be clarified until September. This is because the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has not yet approved another vaccination after one dose of Johnson&Johnson. From September, however, a political decision by the health ministers will make further vaccination possible. That’s why recoverees should only receive one vaccination at their local family doctor, unless the doctor advises differently. The unvaccinated should think about immunization. Because there are only two ways to get antibodies: Infection or vaccination. The longer you wait, the higher the chance of catching a mutation of the corona virus. (Stuttgarter Nachrichten, Aug 9)

Weather in Baden-Württemberg -Summer returns – More than 30 degrees possible
Summer is expected back to Germany from Thursday. Up to 30 degrees and sunshine predicts the German Weather Service (DWD) for the southwest.
Already on Wednesday it remains dry and the sun fights its way through the clouds, especially in the south. On Thursday, according to the DWD, it looks like a picture-perfect summer day: The sun shines from the blue sky, it is dry and will be between 25 and 30 degrees warm. On Friday, even 27 to 31 degrees are possible – in the southwest, however, the risk of thunderstorms increases again. How it will continue next weekend is still unclear, explained the DWD. However, it looks like more showers and thunderstorms again, at least at 25 to 30 degrees. (Stuttgarter Nachrichten, Aug 9)
