Coronavirus in Baden-Württemberg – A quarter of infections in children and adolescents
Every fourth Corona infection in the past seven days has been registered to a children or adolescent. The proportion of infected persons over 60 years of age, on the other hand, is only seven percent, the state health office (LGA) announced in Stuttgart on Monday.

Although the office has observed an increase in the number of infections and the so-called 7-day incidence – i.e. the number of infections recorded per 100,000 inhabitants within one week – since the beginning of July, this value initially fell slightly on Monday. The statewide incidence was 77.9, according to LGA data, down from 78.5 the previous day (as of 4 p.m.).

Six counties have now surpassed the incidence mark of 100. The highest incidence continues to be in the city district of Heilbronn with 143.1, followed by the city district of Baden-Baden with 124.4 and Mannheim with 106.2.  The agency registered 604 new infections and again two new deaths related to coronavirus. This means that 526,422 people in Baden-Württemberg have now been proven to be infected with the virus, and 10,473 deaths are related to it.

An estimated 501 568 people are considered recovered, which was 435 more than the previous day.  According to the data, 123 Covid-19 patients are currently in intensive care units in Baden-Württemberg. That is eight more than the previous day and already 21 more than last Friday. 4.5 percent of operable intensive care beds in the southwest are occupied by Covid-19 cases, up from 3.7 percent on Friday, according to the LGA. So-called hospitalization is now said to carry more weight in assessing the situation. (Stuttgarter Nachrichten, Aug 31)
