Cannstatter Volksfest (Stuttgart’s Octoberfest)
September 28 - October 14
Europe’s biggest fair and beer fest lasts over a 17-day period every year in the last week of September to the first week of October. A wide variety of different fairground rides such as a big wheel, roller coasters, a wild water coaster or the nostalgic carousel fascinate visitors young and old.
The Cannstatter Volksfest is officially declared open with the traditional keg tapping ceremony. Another attraction is the annual Volksfest parade which winds its way through the city streets, made up of beautifully decorated brewers drays drawn by teams of four dray horses, as well as dancing and singing groups in traditional costume.
The symbol of the Volksfest is the traditional fruit column which rises up above the fairground. From the very first Volksfest held in 1818, this towering column decorated with fruit, cereals and vegetables has always adorned the fairground site. This symbol reminds visitors of the origins of the Volksfest as an agricultural harvest festival.
Dates in 2018: 28 september to 14 October
The fest is free. Rides can be purchased at the fairgrounds. Beer tent tickets to reserve a seat or table in advance can be purchased in advance at wasen.de.
