Stop assault: Dependant assistance after high School

SHARP-SAPR Newsletter Apr 2016

Adjusting to a new life after high school, like going to college or getting a job, is not an easy task to both parents and the senior high school students. As parents we worry about the element of surprise that may cause trouble to our sons and daughters. Of course we worry about the bad case scenarios.

Many examples can be considered bad case scenarios: being bullied, forcing one into alcohol parties, cyber-bullying when forcing one to release personal information and affecting one’s bank account or asking for a nude selfie, peers in college or on the job forcing one into having sex without consent, sexual harassment, and many others.

What can parents do to instill a self-protection mindset in their children?
We can look for educational seminars, sessions available in the community that can prepare the young adults to face the issues mentioned above, and others.

Stuttgart’s Army Community Service has many brochures with great information on how to prevent bullying, develop healthy relationships which at times, “healthy relationships” classes are available in the installation and in school. Stop by ACS in Building 2915 Panzer Kaserne for more information.

The book marker contains important contact numbers for the areas of support provided. These book markers will soon be available throughout locations within our installations to pick up and send off with your teen as a resource when they leave for college.
