Directorate of Public Works
UPDATE, Jan. 24: DPW reports both lanes on Texas Strasse, Patch Barracks, opened for traffic yesterday afternoon. Top layers with the asphalt layer will be done later by the contractor, winter weather permitting. For the work at parking area in front of Bldg. 2316, the contractor is trying to meet the scheduled dates, subject to winter weather that could take longer.
Also, parking spots along Texas Street on the side of Bldg. 2316 are slated to be blocked, Jan. 28 – Feb. 1, for tree care work to be done. The contractor will block the required parking spaces. Again, this is contingent upon the weather.
UPDATE, Jan. 16: According to DPW, the balcony repair project is on Panzer Kaserne, not Patch Barracks. The story has been corrected.
UPDATE, Jan. 15, 2019
The contractor performing the sewer line repair work on Ash Street, Kelley Barracks, resumed work today, Jan. 15. Ash Street will be closed in the area immediately in front of Bldg. 3358. Access to Kelley Barracks’ main parking lot must be accessed via Maple Street.
Panzer Kaserne Balconies
Regarding the ongoing balcony project, the delay in the process has been slower due to the holidays and weather. DPW sent out emails to some Panzer residents, Jan. 4, explaining the project timeline in greater detail. According to DPW, a lesson learned from a project on Robinson Barracks a few years ago was that heavy metal balconies must be put in place with a boom lift type forklift. That forklift is heavy and has large rubber tires, and if driven in the wet and soggy grass areas surrounding buildings, it will create large, deep ruts. At RB, significant damage was caused to the grass areas leading to and surrounding the residential buildings there.
Also, DPW spoke to the project manager about tiding up and tightening up the storage and work areas to ensure that all construction material is in its proper place. Should residents notice infractions, please let DPW know immediately so that it can take action. If residents have concerns with the new base maintenance contract, a DPW representative will be happy to discuss them.
