Garrison Fire Dept. announces host open house, May 18

The annual Fire Department Open House will be held in the parking lot in front of the Panzer Exchange, May 18. Firefighting apparatus and other emergency vehicles on will be on display, with garrison and local firefighters performing demonstrations.

In addition to the firefighters and their equipment, there will be host nation first responders at the open house. Feurwehr Böblingen will offer aerial ladder lifts, the Deutsche Rote Kruez  and THW (Technische Hilfe Werke) will bring their personnel and equipment to demonstrate what they do during emergencies,  and a burn container to show how fast and dangerous fires are in a living room, courtesy of Feurwehr Leonberg.

Also during the day, the garrison firefighters will be provide fire extinguisher training and offer fire safety information. For the little ones, there will be fire helmets, backpacks and Sparky the Fire Dog driving around in his car.

10:30 a.m.  Live car fire demonstration as crews extinguish a fully-involved vehicle in the parking lot.
11:30  a.m.  Grease fire demonstration
12:45  p.m.  Auto extrication–watch as the firefighters use assorted tools, such as the “jaws of life,” to extricate a simulated victim from a wrecked car
2 p.m.  Leonberg Fire Department burn container living room fire demonstration
