The U.S. State Department recently issued a travel alert warning of potential terrorist attacks throughout Europe through Aug. 31, 2016.

Targets could include major events, tourist sites, restaurants, commercial centers, and transportation.  The warning specifically highlights the European Soccer Championship from June 10 – July 10 in France, which may present increased risk not only at stadiums, but also in areas will fan concentrate or other viewing venues outside of France.

Other events in the alert include the Tour de France from July 2-24 , and World Youth Day events in Poland from July 26-31.

As a reminder, U.S. European Command requires all DoD travelers to register in the State Departments Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). This is a free service that sends important information from the Embassy about safety conditions in countries where you live or travel, and helps the U.S. Embassy contact you in an emergency.
